“You’ve Got To Be An Idiot To Fall For Scams…”
With nearly 10 years of Crime Prevention experience, I’ve released numerous scam notices, warnings, updates, etc… and every time I see the same comment. “How do people fall for this stuff?”
In my time I’ve spoken with my fair share of people that have either fallen victim to scams, or are trying to help a loved one that they believe may have fallen victim to scams. I’ve been fortunate enough to gain a level of understanding to both the nature of the scammers and also the victims.
Scammers Pick Their Targets
What it boils down to, is that the scammers target their victims with precision. When I say that the scammers target their victims with precision, this doesn’t mean that they look for “stupid people” as some would say. In fact, people of all walks of life fall victim to these scams. Most commonly though, the scammers look for people that they know may not have vast technological knowledge so that they can exploit their lack of understanding by means of fear tactics.
Where Are The Protectors?
What I find troubling is that people are so quick to pass judgement. Instead of passing judgement, I challenge you to help those that might need guidance against these scams. Be a protector, not a critic.
www.Hoax-Slayer.com has released a great ebook titled, Protecting Yourself from Identity Theft, Internet Scams & Phone Scams as a resource to help with protecting those you love from these scams. Check it out.
